Self-sabotage is killing your business and life!

I was speaking with one of our students yesterday and cannot believe how people place hurdles in front of themselves because of beliefs, habits or just plain stinking thinking. You cannot expect everyone on the planet to have your point of views and ideologies… so you don’t do business with people because they are not vegan, non-christian, or just do not match your style of doing things?

Why would you limit yourself… imagine what you could learn from others with different perspectives on life & business.

Stinking thinking puts hurdles in the path of so many people and keeps them from achieving amazing success, and most of the time they do not even realize they are doing it.

Recently I asked a realtor friend of mine to go out and sell CDs on the street as a task in one of our hands-on trainings. She immediately told me that it was a stupid exercise… I left her to think about it and at the end of the hour activity I asked her how it went. She still had the same attitude. So, I asked her why? Her statement was that she cannot sell something she does not believe in or is not passionate about…  I agreed.

A little voice came from the back of the room and said “Did you drive here today?” and her response was YES. Well, all cars have CD players in them and you could have listened to the CD and then gone out knowing what the content was and sold it. WOW, what a revelation for the REALTOR….

Nope, she decided to place another hurdle in her way…and said “well, once it’s open then nobody will buy it and I cannot sell an open product!”

The little voice from the back of the room said again “It’s for a charitable cause and if you believe others will buy it”.

The realtor sat down stunned by this interaction and realization that she was getting in her own way and limiting her own result

How often do you make up excuses as to why you cannot do something?

This same exercise was done at another event with another top performing realtor who went out and sold 67 copies of the same CD… no limiting thoughts or stinking thinking for this realtor!

The 1st realtor was so inspired by this exercise that she went out and starting doing business very differently and the success in her business skyrocketed.

How does this relate to what you do in your life and business everyday? Do you take the high road and a “do whatever it takes” attitude or do you take yourself out of the game for some of the most simple things?

Get rid of the stinking thinking and just get out there and do it. Yes, it may be uncomfortable… that’s all part of learning and growing!

Because, if you are not growing… your are dying!
